ITS International Alumni Seminar “Transport services in Latin America and the Caribbean; the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” presented by Eugenia Rivas, MSc Transport Economics, 2015
In Latin America and the Caribbean, the story of the basic services delivered by a country’s infrastructure—energy, water and sanitation, and transport—is anything but straightforward. When considering the three pillars for evaluating services—access, quality, and affordability—the region’s experience runs the gamut from impressive to dismal. This presentation reviews the good, the bad, and the ugly of transport services in Latin America and the Caribbean and highlights successes in each area that could help rewrite the story. This presentation is a product of the research program developed for the preparation of the Inter-American Development Bank 2020 flagship report: From Structures to Services The Path to Better Infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean.
