The challenges and implications of climate change span all sections of society and the environment, and as such climate change research is a highly interdisciplinary and evolving field. In this webinar, you'll hear from three postgraduate researchers working in very different fields of climate research, covering climate resilient urban water supplies, the role of religion in climate action, and tracking the accelerating flow of Antarctic glaciers: Climate change and urban sanitation – when s**t hits the rain by Leonie Hyde-Smith Climate change will have an impact on sanitation systems worldwide. Why is the focus of adaptation research and funding biased towards sanitation infrastructure and services only used by the minority of the world’s population? Religion, climate change, action: the important role of faith-based organisations at the UN by Jodie Salter Religious groups and faith-based organisations (FBOs) play an important role in shaping how we understand and respond to climate change, particularly given the increasing focus on the moral dimensions of climate change. But how do FBOs engage with UN climate action and what makes them distinctive in this context? Glaciers accelerate in the Getz region of West Antarctica by Heather Selley Antarctica is a remote, unfamiliar place, and over 10,000 miles away from Leeds. By using satellite imagery, it is possible to study changes in this landscape with increasing levels of detail. Heather will talk about her work measuring changes in ice speed over the last 25 years in the Getz region of West Antarctica. This event was part of Connecting Voices for Climate Action, a week of events convened by the University of Leeds to build local to global ambition for COP26 and beyond.
