Dr Michael Backhouse: Developing Online Synchronous Learning Environments
Please click on the 'i' for further information, bottom right hand corner of the video if you are watching this on VideoLeeds. Blackboard Collaborate is an Online Synchronous Learning Environment used to host online events. It is available to all University staff and students. It includes audio, video, text chat, an interactive whiteboard, PowerPoint display, application sharing, breakout rooms, polling and session recording. Dr Michael Backhouse, Senior Research Fellow, has been hosting online events to deliver site initiations and quarterly meeting with a European Study Group. Although Michael was using Adobe Connect rather than Blackboard Collaborate for delivering these online events the functionality and application of both platforms are similar. Listen to Michael's story in relation to his research and his responses to the questions below: 1. Please describe how you have used Online Synchronous Learning Environments? 2. Why did you decide to deliver these sessions online? 3. What type of feedback did you get from those involved in the online events? 4. What would be your top tips when delivering these kind of online events? 5. What are you future plans for the technology?
