Realising the University climate commitments together
In 2019 the University of Leeds set out seven bold principles it will adopt to help tackle the climate crisis, committing to a 2030 net-zero carbon footprint target and a drive to achieve no direct carbon emissions by 2050. The University is currently developing a Climate Plan outlining the practical steps that we as an institution will take to realise these seven principles. It has been developed with input from over 750 students and staff. To achieve the objectives of the Climate Plan, we need to ensure a collaborative and inclusive approach in its delivery. Individually we can all have impact but working together across our community we can be much more effective at influencing change within and beyond the University. As part of an inclusive approach, in the Climate Plan we commit to a just and equitable transition. Our aim is to contribute to a future that is fair to all, where all can thrive, and where what we do does not happen at the expense of others. In this session we start to explore what a collaborative and inclusive approach could look like and how we can use it to maximise impact. You will hear a range of perspectives from across the University. This event was part of Connecting Voices for Climate Action, a week of events convened by the University of Leeds to build local to global ambition for COP26 and beyond.
